Yorkshire Ambulance Service requested assistance with a 68 yr old lady who had probable fractures of her tibia and fibula and was approximately 600 metres from Town Head Farm. She was carried on a stretcher by the Team to the waiting road ambulance.

Call out by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist with a 65 yr old lady who had fallen and injured her wrist. Members who went to the site were told by other walkers that she was already being helped to Kettlewell and they were not required.

Firth Fell

Call out by North Yorkshire Police to search for 3 men missing on walk from Arncliffe to Buckden. On available information it was decided they were in Wharfedale, and a quick reaction by PC S.Crossley spotted them signaling SOS on a torch from the head of Firth/Step Gill. A team land rover got to within about 400 metres of them and they were soon in the vehicle, safe, and sound and on their way down to Buckden.

Call out by North Yorkshire Police to search for a couple lost in thick cloud on Great Whernside. They were 'talked' back over the hill from the Nidderdale side and met by team land rover near Hag Dike.

Call out by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist with an 18 yr old male with an injured ankle. When team reached him it was decided to call in the Air Ambulance to speed his evacuation and avoid a long and dificult carry.

Request from Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist with man who had head injuries following a fall. He was picked up by the Air Ambulance and transferred to a road ambulance while members were en route.

Whilst attending Burnsall Feast Sports the team was called to assist a 62 year old male fell runner who had collapsed after sustaining a suspected heart attack.  Yorkshire Air Ambulance transported the casualty to the waiting road ambulance. (Fatality).

Bolton Abbey

The team was called to assist the police in a search for a 47 year old female who had been reported missing on Saturday 23rd. An extensive search was conducted with the assistance of SARDA dogs, members of the CRO and both police and RAF helicopters. On Monday 25th the search was continued by the police underwater search team. On Tuesday 26th UWFRA members continued the search with a SARDA dog. The missing female finally turned up unharmed on the evening of the 26th.

Starbotton to Kettlewell path Called to assit the ambulance service with a 73 year old female casualty. She had slipped and sprained/broken her left ankle. She was stretchered to a waitng ambulance.

6th April

Embsay Crag The Team was called to assist the Ambulance Service. A 51 year old lady had collapsed. Before all the team arrived on site, the casualty was airlifted by the Air Ambulance and taken to Airedale Hospital. This was particularly fortunate since ten minutes after the helicopter had taken off a heavy snowfall took place that lasted most of the afternoon.

Masongill Ireby Fell Cavern Assist CRO with the evacuation of 25 cavers, including 2 who were beyond a sump and had to be dived out. UWFRA also provided additional equipment on a night when the CRO dealt with 4 underground incidents and 1 surface incident.

A man, whilst taking part in a Fell Running event, fell and badly sprained his ankle. The team, on standby for this organised event, evacuated him from the fellside by Fell Rescue Ambulance. 8

Shipley, W.Yorks
A young man fell and trapped his foot in a metal grid whilst walking home with a friend in the early hours of the morning.  His friend called for an ambulance, but when the ambulance arrived the man had disappeared. Due to the proximity of the Moor the UWFRA team was called to make an extensive search – but without result. It is believed the casualty made his own way home. 28

 Burnsall Fell, Burnsall  UWFRA was on standby at the Bunsall Fell Race. During the event the team attended to the following three incidents:
i) a young male runner sustained an ankle injury and was taken by Fell Rescue Ambulance from the Fell to a waiting road ambulance.
ii) another runner injured his lower leg on the way up the Fell and was helped down then transported by the Fell Rescue Ambulance back to the village.
iii) another runner suffered a serious heart problem on his way down the Fell and was flown to hospital via Air Ambulance

31/08/07  Barden Moor, Wharfedale  A couple became lost whilst out walking. Seeing a deserted Wharfedale keeper’s lodge at the side of Upper Barden Reservoir they used their mobile phone to call for assistance. UWFRA was able to pick them up and drive them back to their own vehicle. 14
02/09/07  Old Cote Moor Tip, a Labrador dog, found its way down a three metre deep hole. An UWFRA caver secured the dog and hauled it to the surface. 5

Appletreewick Falls, Wharfedale  A man fell four metres onto rocks at the edge of the river. After being treated for suspected spinal and head injuries by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, the UWFRA team carried him to the Air Ambulance 15
09/09/07 Valley Entrance, Kingsdale UWFRA assisted the Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) when a man mistakenly tried to free-dive (not using any breathing apparatus) the 30 metre long Mud River Series Sump 1. UWFRA helped CRO assist the man back to the surface. 7
18/09/07  Dalesway Footpath, Burnsall An elderly lady slipped and fell approximately 1.5 metres. The team carried her back to safety. 5
22/09/07 Arncliffe, Littondale A lady fell 10 metres. The team placed her in a vacuum mattress and onto a stretcher. She was winched up to an RAF Sea King helicopter and taken to hospital. 12

 A man suffering from depression went missing the afternoon  before. After an extensive search involving UWFRA and members from the Calder Valley Team he was found in a small wood with suspected back injuries. The Yorkshire Ambulance Service took him to hospital 28

Upper Wharfedale
When called to rescue a mother and daughter from stepping stones across a rapidly rising river, the team also had to rescue a fireman who had been washed away by the force of the water. The team hauled him up a cliff to safety. 11

Upper Wharfedale
A family of six got lost whilst out walking. They raised the alarm when it got dark and eventually the UWFRA team found them and
drove them back to their lodgings.

10/11/07 River below Thruscross Reservoir A canoeist crashed into a river bridge. He managed to get to the bank of the river where UWFRA assisted paramedics to tend to his suspected leg injuries. 7
27/11/07 Nether Hesleden, Littondale Late the previous evening a female driver crashed and abandoned her car. When reported missing, the Police made a search for her with Police dogs and a helicopter. UWFRA was called in the next day to make an extensive search using SARDA (Search And Rescue Dogs Association) and an RAF Sea King helicopter. The casualty was found safe and well. 44
30/11/07 Arncliffe, Littondale  A man became lost in the dark whilst out walking. He raised the Littondale alarm on his mobile phone and the team went out to find him. 6
27/12/07  ‘Simon’s Seat’, Appletreewick  A young man became separated from his walking party in poor visibility. He called for help on his mobile, but was assisted by another group of walkers, who escorted him down to be reunited with his party 15
30/12/07  Great Whernside,
Upper Wharfedale
 A hang glider lost control and fell to the ground on the slopes of the mountain. Yorkshire Ambulance Service eventually dealt with the incident which proved not to be serious. On the way to the scene, however, they thought the casualty may need carrying to the ambulance on a stretcher and called UWFRA to assist. Two UWFRA members were quickly on scene but the remainder were stood down 2

A man was rescued from Dow Cave near Kettlewell after being unable to pass a restricted part of the passage and too tired to climb up a narrow alternative exit route. Seventeen cavers went underground to assist his exit from the cave system, whilst numerous supported on the surface.

The team were called to search for two men reported missing on the edge of Ilkley Moor. One was said to have possible head injuries. However, when the team arrived the Fire Service had also been called and the two men had walked up to them.

A lamb was stuck down a hole in Trollers Gill above Appletreewick. The team had to first remove numerous old
tyres that had been thrown down the hole before they could reach the lamb. It was rescued successfully, none the worse for its fall.

A man was reported missing on the outskirts of Harrogate. The team assisted North Yorkshire Police by searching the extensive area around the Harrogate Showground. This search continued over two days. The man was eventually
found in another part of the town. 17 members attended on both days together with a SARDA search dog

A man fell off a small rockface whilst descending a stream Hubberholme bed at Strans Gill above Hubberholme and sustained a suspected broken ankle. He was carefully stretchered across some difficult terrain to the team Land Rover in which he was taken to an Ambulance Service vehicle waiting at the end of the track.

The team were called to assist The Ambulance Service at Barden Towers, where a lady was reported to have broken her collar bone. The team were stood down before arriving on scene as the lady was taken to hospital by the Air Ambulance.

The team were called to assist our neighboring Cave Rescue Organisation by providing cave diving equipment. A cave diver was reported overdue. Unfortunately this turned out to be a fatality

Four cavers were trapped by floodwater in Hagg Gill Pot in Langstrothsdale Langstrothsdale. A full callout was made to divert the water and enter the cave. However, as the team arrived on scene, the missing cavers had just emerged.

A lady was reported missing in the Conistone area of Wharfedale Wharfedale, late at night. A full callout was made including two search and rescue dogs (SARDA). After an extensive search she was eventually found by one of the dogs and stretchered to an awaiting ambulance.

Whilst riding on the Dales Way above Coniston, a lady fell from Coniston her horse and sustained suspected fractured ribs. She was carried on a stretcher to an awaiting ambulance.

17/12/06 Buckden Pike A lady sustained a suspected broken ankle after slipping on wet ground whilst fell walking on Buckden Pike. The team were called to assist the Ambulance Service, however, the lady was evacuated by the Air Ambulance before the team arrived on scene. 11
19/12/06 Kilnsey Crag The team were called to rescue a sheep stranded on a ledge on Kilnsey Crag. Low cloud and mist hampered locating the animal but two members abseiled down to assist the sheep back to the top. 7
19/12/06 Ramsgill The team was called to assist the Nidderdale Ambulance Service. An elderly lady had sustained a suspected broken ankle whilst walking on wet ground. The team were stood down before leaving their base. 4
25-26/12/0 Ease Gill Caverns The team were called to assist the rescue of a male with suspected upper limb and pelvis injuries, from Ease Gill Caverns, by our neighbouring team the CRO. The man was a long way underground and not the easiest day of the year to mount a rescue! However, this was done successfully. 24
