New Team Website (22-02-2009)

If you're reading this then you will probably have realised the Team Website has undergone a face lift!  Based on feedback from the members and following a number of feature requests the decision was taken to redesign the website.

For the new site we've used a lot of the content from the old site but have aimed for a fresher and more modern look and feel.  The members area once again has a file gallery which will hopefully provide a valuable resource for downloading training notes, newsletters and other useful documents.

We've also added a calendar showing all the team practices and event, this is still being populated so please be patient.  The Personal Kit List has also been added to the members area for easy reference.

So what's next?  Well that's up to you really, we would like to hear from the members.  Tell us what features you'd like to see on the site, perhaps something you've seen on another websites.  All ideas are welcome we can't promise that we'll implement everything suggested, but we'll do our best!  suggestions can be emailed to the Web Admin.

For the technically minded the site is a Content Management System (CMS) called Drupal.  This is the same system the CRO are currently using.  Our previous site was also a CMS but based on a different engine called TikiWiki.  Drupal provides much more flexibility over the old system and allows the use of  more modern Internet technologies such as Ajax for a faster browsing experience.

Drupal requires both PHP and MySQL to run, currently we're running Drupal 5, but there are plans to upgrade to Drupal 6 or 7 at some point in the future.  The reason for not using a later version of Drupal at the moment is that it requires an iMySQL database, which is something we would need to sort out with our hosting provider.

If any of the above paragraph interests you and you'd like to know more or maybe even help with the website then drop the Web Admin an email.
