  (Team training)

UWFRA needs new members, as people like our equipment wear out and need replacing!

If your thinking about joining UWFRA first of all consider:

  • Are you competent in the hills in all weathers and on all terrains?
  • Are you a competent caver?
  • Do you have good local knowledge of the Dales?
  • Are you willing to attend rescues (underground and surface) at a moment's notice, night and day?
  • Willing to spend time learning about the specialised equipment and techniques of mountain rescue and casualty care?
  • Willing to attend regular training sessions  (approx 2 per month)?
  • Willing to spend Monday nights at the Hut sorting out equipment?
  • Willing to take part in fundraising activities for the team (approx 6 per year)?
  • Finally are you over 18 and fit and healthy?

If the answer is yes then there may be a place for you.

The Process

There are normally two intakes a year, usually March and September

If your intrested in joining email us (details in the contact section) and our membership secretary will contact you
and most likely send you a membership form.

If you are what we are looking for you will be invited for an interview at the next available intake.

If  your successful you will join the team as a pre probationary member for 6 months where you will have to undergo specific training, this includes stretcher assembly, rigging, navigation test, first aid etc.

After 6 months and successfully passing all training requirements you will be put forward at committee to go on to probation.

If successful you will go onto probation which lasts a year. You will now be on the active call out list attending callouts and working with the team on training exercises and other activities. There are still various training requirements that you must complete during this probation year. The year culminates in a practical exam. Achieving all this as well as proving your capability to the team on exercise, should result in you being invited to full team membership.

Please note that Mountain Rescue can be hard work and callouts often come when your least expecting them. However joining the team and rescuing someone in need can give a great sense of team work and statisfaction.
