Donations & Fundraising

UWFRA is made up of over 80 well trained and well equipped volunteer cavers, climbers and mountaineers and is on call 365 days a year. Our membership live in the Dales or travel from as far away as Leeds or Bradford and are prepared to respond to a callout at any time of the day or night in the worst of weather conditions.

We demand the most up to date equipment and many items must be changed or removed from use by strict control and rotation. We receive no Government funding and our services remain free to those who need us. Our annual running costs are currently in excess of £34,000 per annum and we remain reliant on donations and fundraising events. Without your support and generosity our rescue team could not function.

I am running the Mont Blanc marathon in the French Alps this year in June  (http://www.montblancmarathon.net/index.php?rub=99&langue=an) which is not only extremely hilly but involves a total of 2511 metres of climbing and is set at an altitude of 1000-2200m which makes it even tougher!

The Hadrian's Way walk goes from Wallsend to Bowness on Solway & I think it's 86 miles. We set off on Friday 28th August and hope to be putting our feet up by Tuesday. We'll be staying in hostels at night & carrying our gear (no hair straighteners or stilletoes) (for a change). My friend Gerri Dobbie is from East Sheen so is a right townie softie and is assuming I shall lead the way being a tough Yorkshire lass. I'm supremely confidant we won't get lost as I've been assured the Romans built a huge wall and we can walk alongside it. Gerri and I are like chalk and cheese. She's arty, cultivated & sophisticated and I'm .......     not. But we both talk an awful lot and this will be a great challenge and a great lark.
